As a high school teacher I am forever trying to find ways to help put my students more in control of their learning. Edmodo, is the tool to do just that! I love that Edmodo is built to look just like Facebook which is one of the top sites already used by my students. The similarities mean that the student already know how to navigate much of the site, the layout appeals them, and Facebook is cool so therefore Edmodo is is at the very least, slightly cool by association. This year my school district has enabled students and families to view the electronic grade book used by the teachers. I have been making my students use it to find out what they are missing instead of asking me. This gives them more ownership of their learning. I would love to incorporate Edmodo into my curriculum project by having students log on to Edmodo to do interactive assignments, communicate issues with me, and provide links and information for supplemental information to students and families.
I like how you say ownership. I think that has been lost in recent years and it is a tool that not only students, but parents need to understand as well.
ReplyDeleteMy students can view their grades over the internet, and it really does hold them accountable for monitoring their own progress and assignment completion. I think that the online interaction which can take place in Edmodo will be a great addition to your course.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree Edmodo is a great tool for both teachers and students and it holds the students accountable for the work they complete. I also like how the design is similar to Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of tapping into the interests of your students to motivate their learning. I think it is so important to incorporate the interest of your students into teaching them because they are not always motivated on their own.
ReplyDeleteMy district also uses an online grade book with access given to parents, in addition to, the students. Although it is convenient and easy to use, I would love to start utilizing something like Edmodo as well in order to have a place for parents to see the assignments and due dates before its too late and their students have missing grades for assignments. Not to mention, I think the students would prefer Edmodo over our current site.
ReplyDeleteI definately like the outlook of Edmodo for the classroom setting. I think making your students more accountable especially when it comes to assignments and Edmodo is a new and unique way to do this.
